Yao Jiaxin on trial at the Xi’an Intermediate People’s Court
Yao Jiaxin, the Xi’an Conservatory student who murdered a waitress in a hit-and-run incident in 2010, was executed today in Xi’an, China.
The incident occurred in Xi’an in October of last year when Yao hit the waitress with his car while driving home. To prevent her from demanding compensation, Yao stabbed her eight times in the back, stomach, and chest, until she died.
Yao had been sentenced to death by the Xi’an Intermediate People’s Court on April 22, 2011. The sentence was upheld by the Higher People’s Court of Shaanxi Province on May 20, 2011 and by the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China shortly thereafter.
Well, that went pretty quickly. Lesson to Chinese parents: it’s cool to beat your kids and make them practice piano six hours a day and all, but make sure they don’t slaughter somebody before they reach productive adulthood because all those beatings will be wasted, and you’ll never see any of that piano lesson money back.
